Canadian Championship Results The Canadian Senior Championships and CSC #2 were held at Carleton University from November 26 to 29. Congratulations to the Cadet Men's foilists who dominated the field finishing 1st (Sam Broughton), 3rd (Alastair Keyes), and 5th (Jean Marc Turk). Marc-Andre Leblanc won bronze in the Senior Men's Epee event and the Men's Foil Team (Alex Martin, Nicolas Wagman and Nathan Morris) won silver in Men's Team Foil. Ottawa Fencing Team Dinner It's that time of the year again! This year, the Ottawa Fencing Team Dinner will be on January 29th in the downstairs room of the Clocktower Restaurant (575 Bank Street). This is an all ages event, open to all fencers (and their families), and a great opportunity for RA, EXO, MDF and Carleton club members to get together outside of the Salle. The evening will include dinner, entertainment, and door prizes. If you know of anyone interested in donating a prize for the event (such as Items, Gift Certificates or Tickets to hockey games or other events), please let Elizabeth know. Ticket prices, menu options and other information will follow as we get closer to the date. We look forward to seeing all of you there.
Competitions for Beginners The third event of this year's ODFC will be held at the RA on Saturday December 19. The Ottawa Developmental Fencing Circuit (ODFC) is a competitive circuit in Ottawa for beginner fencers. This circuit consists of 5 tournaments. Winter Fencing Camp (Dec. 28 - 30) Ottawa Fencing will be running a 3 day winter camp from 9:00am to 4:00pm on December 28 to 30 at the RA. This camp will be a mix between tactical, technical, physical and practical skills. This clinic is geared toward fencers preparing for NAC in January, provincial level fencers, and the ODFC development group. The following items will be addressed at the clinic: Fitness - Circuit Training Lessons Mental Training Lessons Tactical Work - Evaluation of Actions Benefiting from your Lessons /Log Book Warm Up - Competition/Training Tournament Expectations Video/Observation Skills Contact Paul at 613-852-3832 or by e-mail at paul@ottawafencing.ca to register. The cost is $200.00.
Holiday Season Training Schedule Training at the RA will be cancelled on Thursday, December 24 and Thursday, December 31. Monday sessions on December 21 and December 28 will be regular session (8:00-10:30). The last training day at the University of Ottawa Lees campus will be on November 27. All training sessions regularly scheduled for Lees will be at the RA from November 30 Until December 17. Regular programming will continue at Lees as of January 11. There will not be any scheduled training on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays between December 17 and January 12.
Carleton Invitational Team Tournament (Jan. 9 - 10) Ottawa Fencing will be participating 'en masse' at this year's Carleton Invitational Team Tournament on January 9 and 10. This is a team event and all OTT fencers are encouraged to participate. If you are interested in helping organize the teams, registrations, and logistics for OTT for this event please talk to Paul.
