4 Ottawa Fencing Fencers Competing at World Championships OTT fencers Kelleigh Ryan, Wendy Saschenbrecker and Sherraine Schalm will be representing Canada at the World Fencing Championships while David Arthurs will be representing Canada at the World Veterans Fencing Championships. Good luck to all of you.
Salle Schedule for Club Members Regular club hours are now in effect. All weapons will meet at the RA on Mondays starting at 8:00 with a focus on foil lessons. Epee will continue on Tuesdays from 7:30 at the new venue, 200 Lees. Foil will continue on Wednesdays at 7:30. Thursdays at the RA at 7:30 will be for all weapons with a focus on epee lessons. Additional Saturday training (12:00 to 2:00) at the RA is recommended - Saturday training sessions run during the non-tournament Saturdays. Well done to those who trained throughout the summer and participated in our HP camp in mid August.
Please Help Ottawa Fencing runs nine tournaments throughout the year, beginning with the Governor General's Tournament on October 3 and 4. This is one of OTTs major tournaments. We are always looking for volunteers for set-up, takedown and administration. This is a good opportunity for high-school students to complete community service hours and for parents to become involved with their children's fencing. Competitions for Beginners The Ottawa Developmental Fencing Circuit (ODFC) is a great opportunity for beginner and intermediate fencers to participate in local tournaments. The circuit consists of 5 tournaments. The dates for ODFC 1, 2, and 3 have been finalized. They will be on October 31, November 21 and December 19. All of these events will be held at the RA Centre. Armband Test The CFF Armband Program is similar to a belt program in martial arts. There will be an armband test session on Monday December 7. The armband test sessions will be at the RA starting at 6:30. To learn more about the CFF Armband Program, please visit: http://ottawafencing.ca/armband
Extra Lessons Parviz is available for private and semi-private lessons throughout the week. These lessons are on a weekly basis. See Paul to book a time slot with Parviz. Parviz's small group technical classes will start the week of September 21. These lessons are geared towards fencers who would like to learn to compete. There are classes available for Yellow, Orange, and Green armband level in both foil and epee. There is a limit of 8 fencers per session and the cost for the 10 week course is $160, late registrations will be prorated. Courses are available on: Wednesdays - 6:00 to 7:30 Wednesdays - 7:30 to 9:00 Fridays - 6:00 to 7:30 Fridays - 7:30 - Private lessons Contact Paul at 613.852.3832 to register for these courses.
Summer Camps Over the course of the summer Ottawa Fencing ran 15 weeks of summer camps with over 500 participants, ranging from beginner to high performance athletes.
