Honour Roll Congratulations to Joe Wright (silver men’s epee Under 15), Francois Provencher (bronze men’s foil Under 15), Sam Broughton (bronze men’s foil Under 17) and David Arthurs (gold men’s epee Veteran and bronze men’s foil veteran) at last week’s Canadian Championships. Ottawa Fencing had 17 fencers competing in Saskatoon on June 25-28. Ottawa Fencing also had several top 8 and top 16 results. Our National Team Fencers Kelleigh Ryan won Bronze at the National Team selection event on June 27th, confirming her position on the Canadian Team. Kelleigh is competing for team Canada at the Pan-Am fencing championships in El Salvadore during the week of July 4-11. Marc Andre Leblanc is competing in Belgrade from July 3-July 8th at the World University Games. Both Marc Andre and Kelleigh will be fencing individual and team events. Summer Schedule The RA fencing club is open for the summer. The dates and hours are below. Those fencing this summer can register at the RA administration desk or see Paul to register through Excalibur. Lessons for the summer session are pay as you go. Paul will be at the RA for lessons on July 7, 9, 14, 16 and August 6, 10, 20, 24, 27, 31. To arrange a lesson, please contact paul@ottawafencing.ca or call 613.852.3832. Cost of lessons are $30 / 30 minutes. All competitive fencers should follow this schedule and attached program below in order to be ready for the next CSC on the 18th to 20th of September. Mondays at the RA Fencing Club (8:00 - 10:00) July 7, 14, 21, 28 and August 10, 17, 24, 31 Thursdays at the RA Fencing Club (8:00 - 10:00) July 9, 16, 23, 30 and August 6, 13, 20, 27 There will be organized footwork lessons on July 21, 23, 28, 30 and August 13, 17. These sessions will be 45 minutes long and will be run by either Alex Martin or Nick Wagman. The footwork sessions will begin at 8:00. Regular training resumes at the RA on Monday September 1st. All fencers should continue to work on all aspects of their game throughout the summer. This includes fitness, visualization and relaxation, technical, tactical, strengthening, and flexibility.
Summer Camps There are still some spots open for the Ottawa Fencing High Performance Camp. Camp details can be found at: http://exo.ottawafencing.ca/events/camps.htm. This camp is highly recommended for all competitive fencers. The ground work and programming for the season is initiated during this 5 day intensive program. See you on the piste. Paul ApSimon
